Garden Tour to Benefit Fairview Public Library

Fairview residents will get to tour local gardens while benefiting the Fairview Public Library on Saturday, June 7 for the Garden Tour, sponsored by Friends of the Fairview Library.

The tour will showcase six unique gardens throughout homes in Fairview.

“One garden has all native Tennessee plants, and another garden has some tree art. Another one is just a beautiful garden,”   said Jeanette Mellendorf, president of Friends of the Fairview Library. “It’s all very interesting and worthwhile.”

Tickets cost ten dollars and are on sale at The Fairview Library. Children ages twelve and younger may tour the gardens for free. The tours run from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Participants will be given a map with locations and descriptions of each of the six gardens and are free to start at any location. One member from Friends of the Fairview Library will be at each garden to greet people as they walk through.

This is the second year for the Garden Tour.

“Last year, we raised over a thousand dollars with our tour,” Mellendorf said. “It was very successful. We have all different gardens this year.”

All proceeds will go to the Fairview Public Library.

“This not only helps in purchasing books but in some of the children’s programs,” said Mellendorf, who is a strong supporter of reading. “I’ve always loved the library. I’ve always loved reading; I think its very educational. I think in today’s age of computers, people don’t always read enough, but we’re happy that the people of Fairview still use the library.”

The Friends of the Library group meets the first Tuesday of every month. They hold two used book sales a year which take place the last weekend in January and the last weekend in July.

“We’re always open for new members,” Mellendorf said.
