The second round of the Class 5A playoffs pits two local teams against each other: Page at Summit.
The teams are coming off of quite different games. Page (8-3), a three seed, managed to upset two-seed Gallatin last week 27-21. Summit (9-2), a one seed, totally controlled things against four-seed Hillwood 42-7. Though Gallatin, which was 7-3, was a much tougher match than Hillwood, which was 3-7.
The two teams played each other earlier this year and the Spartans won fairly easily, 35-17.
Summit quarterback Ethan Cash threw three first-half touchdown passes, while Tae Carter ran for another.
Johnson, the Patriots’ workhorse running back, carried 19 times for 147 yards.
Page quarterback Jacob Van Landingham completed 15-of-25 passes for 141 yards, an interception and a touchdown.
However, both Cash and Carter are out. So this could be a totally different game.
Despite losing their starting quarterback and running back, the Spartans are deep.
The Spartans got good production from George Odimegwu, Payton Craig, who had 4 touchdowns last week, and Quinn Slaugenhoupt running the ball since Carters later-October injury.
The game could rest on how Summit’s run-heavy offense does.
