FSSD Teachers Recognized for Excellence
Two FSSD related arts teachers have been recognized by their peers for excellence in their fields.

The Tennessee Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Dance recently named Freedom Middle School physical education teacher Gay Mayes it’s Tennessee Middle School Teacher of the Year. Citing her hard work and dedication to the teaching profession, TAHPERD officials notified Ms. Mayes of this statewide honor in September. She will be recognized by the organization during the annual TAHPERD convention, held in Murfreesboro, October 28-30.

Sharon Byers, art teacher at Freedom Intermediate School, was also recognized by her colleagues. The Tennessee Art Education Association has chosen Byers as the TAEA Middle Tennessee Art Educator 2013. She will be honored with this top award at the TAEA Conference in Gatlinburg on November 1.
This award is given to recognize excellence in professional accomplishment and service by a dedicated art educator. Mrs. Byers exemplifies the highly qualified individuals who are active in the field of art education today: leaders, teachers, students, scholars, and advocates who give their best to the profession.

 
Also recognized is Shannon Carlisle, Moore Elementary School gifted/talented teacher, who was chosen Best Public School Teacher by the Kids Readers’ Poll of The Nashville Scene.
