Free Teen Suicide Prevention Seminar

According to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, youth between the ages of 10-14 have seen a 128% increase in suicides since 1980, making it the third leading cause of death for that age group. More teenagers and young adults die from suicide than from cancer, heart disease, AIDS, birth defects, stroke, pneumonia, influenza, and chronic lung disease combined.

After learning that suicide is the second leading cause of death for Tennessee youth ages 12-18, Judge Sharon Guffee, local law enforcement and the Jason Foundation have put together a seminar to inform the community about teen suicide prevention.

The seminar will be held Tuesday, April 7 from 6:30p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at The People’s Church, 828 Murfreesboro Rd in Franklin. The seminar is free and open to the public.

Sheriff Jeff Long of the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office and Chief Deborah Y. Faulkner of the Franklin Police Department will be expressing how this important issue affects law enforcement in each respective jurisdiction.

Event leaders:

  • Juvenile Judge Sharon Guffee
  • Sheriff Jeff Long
  • Chief Deborah Y. Faulkner
  • Senior Judge Paul Summer
  • Morgan Marks (Jason Foundation)
  • Pastor Ken Morris (The People’s Church)

The Jason Foundation is an organization who provides awareness and educational programs on teen suicide all across the United States.
