Saturday, June 6th is Free Fishing Day! The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency provides the free day in hopes of increasing interest in fishing. The day allows anyone the opportunity to try this great outdoor sport, especially children. In addition, children ages 15 and younger may fish without a license beginning on Free Fishing Day through the following Friday (June 12).

Fishing events will take place all across the state, including a Youth Fishing Rodeo from 7:00 am- 10:00 am at the Veteran’s Memorial Park at Evergreen Lake in Fairview. Fairview Parks Department and Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) is inviting kids ages 16 and under to take part in one of the world’s oldest and most-loved pastimes – fishing!

The Rodeo will be June 6th from 7 a.m. until 10 a.m. Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. with a drawing for prizes at 10 a.m. Prizes have been donated by TWRA and include $1000 worth of fishing equipment to be given away. In addition to having a chance to catch catfish and win prizes, participants will be treated to free hot dogs and bottled water, courtesy of Publix in Fairview.

All public waters will be open to fishing without a license requirement on June 6th, according to the TWRA. If you have any questions or would like further details please contact TWRA Wildlife Officer, John Parks at (615) 509-0523 or Bowie Park Program Director, Jenny Herrera at (615) 799-5544 EXT 2.
