Three shelters in the Middle Tennessee area are participating in Mars Petcare’s 10th annual adoption weekend on August 25 and 26. On these days, Mars Petcare will cover all adoption fees for pets adopted from Metro Animal Care & Control, Nashville Humane Association and Williamson County Animal Center in an effort to help eliminate pet homelessness and provide critical support to local shelters.

Mars Petcare is making it easier for people to welcome pets into their homes no matter where they live. It’s all a part of their BETTER CITIES FOR PETS™ initiative, which brings the voice of pets and their owners to places of influence, advocating for fewer pets in shelters, more pet-friendly places, and happier, healthier lives for both people and pets.

Representatives from Mars Petcare will be at local shelters throughout the weekend helping to facilitate adoptions and speak to adoptive families.

In addition, Mars Petcare has partnered with the SAFE Coalition (Metro Animal Care & Control, Nashville Humane Association) to develop the “Home for Good Fund,” which includes a $10,000 grant program that provides resources to coalition partners who offer critical support to pet owners in an effort to keep more pets in their homes. The adoption weekend and SAFE Coalition partnership are part of the Mars Petcare BETTER CITIES FOR PETS™ program, which aims to make cities more pet-friendly so that people and pets can live happier, healthier lives together.

Each year, 8 million pets end up in shelters; in Middle Tennessee alone, more than 40,000 pets are surrendered to shelters. The Mars Petcare adoption weekend was developed 10 years ago to help eliminate pet homelessness.

The event takes place 10am-5pm at all three shelters Saturday & Sunday.
