Franklin Stumbles Against Overton

Franklin Rebels
Lannom Craddock takes the ball

school headerFranklin fought all night, in its first 6A Region 3 game of the season last night at home against Overton.

But the grind it out, fighting-in-the-trenches game slowly slipped away from the Rebels, who lost 41-20

A Tale of Two Tailbacks

Lannom Craddock had a gutsy game for Franklin (1-2, 0-1), but Kimlee Norther scored four touchdowns for Overton.

North racked up 184 yards of offense, 127 rushing and 47 receiving, with three rushing touchdowns and another receiving, as Overton’s offensive line just seemed to get better push off the ball all night. Craddock had 123 all-purpose yards and a touchdown, his third of the season- 61 yards on 17 carries and added 62 return yards on two tries.

With Franklin still hanging around, down 27-13 in a slow third quarter, North caught a screen pass and ripped off a 51-yard race to the end zone for the only score of the quarter.

Franklin had trouble with turnovers, and Overton capitalized on those mistakes. The Rebels lost two fumbles and threw an interception. The last turnover of the night put the game totally out of reach, as Elijah Pankey picked up a Franklin fumble and returned it 82 yards to put Overton on top 41-13 with four minutes left in the game.

Kyle Evans passing for Frankin went 3-6 for 122 yards and a touchdown; Wes Patterson also took some snaps for the Rebels, going 5-12 for 45 yards and an interception.

Alex Gaca led Franklin with 70 yards on 3 receptions, while Matthew Burns gained 46 yards on 7 carries.

Franklin won an emotional home opener last week against Riverdale, and travels to Brentwood next Friday hoping to get back to .500 on the season.
