Independence quarterback Ethan Cash hit 25 of 36 passes for 305 yards and two touchdowns in a 24-7 win at Franklin on Friday.
Receiver Isaiah Collier caught 11 balls for 147 yards and a score, and T.J. Sheffield had six for 88 and a touchdown.
The Eagles’ defense, which had struggled in the first four games, gave up just 216 yards.
Independence went up 17-7 after Weston Landry’s 25-yard field goal with 7:20 left in the third quarter.
With 9:07 to play, Sheffield scored his second touchdown on a 1-yard run, Landry’s point-after putting the Eagles up 24-7.
Cash hit Sheffield with a 27-yard touchdown pass with 3:15 left in the first quarter, though Landry missed the point-after to keep the lead at 6-0.
Franklin took a 7-6 advantage after Matt Gaca’s 8-yard scoring run, followed by Alex Cundall’s point-after.
Cash found Coller with a 54-yard strike, and the Eagles’ lead was 14-7 at the break after a 2-point conversion.
Gaca led Franklin with 16 carries fro 97 yards and added four catches for 33 yards.
Independence (2-3) is off next week. Franklin (2-3) hosts Hendersonville.
