ThriftSmart, a nonprofit social enterprise with two area thrift stores, will close its Franklin location, it announced recently.
The Franklin location at 454 Downs Boulevard will close on January 31, 2018. Its second store, at 4890 Nolensville Pike in Nashville, will remain open.
“We love serving families and individuals across the Greater Nashville area.” said co-founder and executive director Dick Gygi. “In order to do this better and provide more direct funding to our charity partners, on January 31st we will be consolidating our locations. Our Franklin location will be closing and we will be expanding our offerings at our Nashville location.”
In preparation for the consolidation, all merchandise in the Franklin store will be liquidated in January, with increasing discounts throughout the month.

ThriftSmart opened their first store in Franklin 2005, and the Nolensville Road location opened later that same year. The Downs Blvd location in Franklin opened in 2014. ThriftSmart gives 100% of their profits to four Williamson County-based charities that are impacting lives both locally and globally – Mercy Community Healthcare, African Leadership, New Hope Academy and The Belize Project. ThriftSmart’s Nashville store also hosts partner nonprofit Sew For Hope and their sewing training classes for refugees and immigrants.
“Since our founding in 2005, our ThriftSmart stores have donated over $500,000 to our charity partners,” says Gygi. “We were founded in large part to generate ongoing revenue for these charities, and we will be able to contribute more to their great missions as a result of streamlining our operations. We are so grateful to the Franklin community for its continued support and look forward to welcoming more shoppers at our Nashville store in 2018!”
