Franklin Road Academy quarterback Eric Stoxstill-Diggs had another big night, but it came in a 24-18 defeat at South Gibson on Friday.
The senior completed 18-for-32 passes for 224 yards and two touchdowns, and rushed for 67 yards on seven carries and a score. But crucial mistakes, including one of his own, did the Panthers in.
Playing from behind the whole night, FRA had a chance to tie or take the lead in the final two minutes, but fumbled away its final possession after getting inside the South Gibson 10.
FRA had 11 total net yards in the first half, but found life after the break.
Stoxstil-Diggs scored FRA’s first points on a second-half scoring run. The Panthers’ Canaan Catlett, who had 109 yards receiving, caught both touchdown strikes in the second half.
The Panthers’ mistakes were killers.
Early in the fourth quarter, Stoxstill-Diggs had an interception returned for a score by Josh Kwasigroh
FRA was also unable to convert either a point-after kick or a two-point conversion.
Lance Wilhoite had six catches for 59 yards.
Star defensive lineman Tymon Mitchell had six tackles. Matt Dalton led the team with seven stops.
Calemn Rich had nine rushes for 93 yards for South Gibson and a touchdown.
FRA hosts its third-consecutive game next Friday, this one coming against Lipscomb Academy.
FRA mascot is now a Panther and non longer the Rebels.
My apologies. That was my mistake.
