Franklin Police Hosted Mounted Training Event

Two Franklin Police Officers joined nearly 40 other attendees from seven other departments across Tennessee, along with representatives from five other states to receive training in Mounted Police work. The 40-hour class, which was held at the Williamson County AgExpoPark prepares officers for mounted patrol work, including crowd control management, dignitary protection, vehicle escorts and parade riding.

Officers also learned how to train their mount for visual and audible stressors in controlling a spooked horse. James D. Harber, a retired Metro Nashville Police Sergeant with over 30 years of law enforcement experience, including 15 years with Nashville’s Mounted Patrol unit as a supervisor and trainer, served as the lead instructor for the course. “This is a great opportunity to gather with fellow mounted police officers from across the country to improve and learn new skills,” said Franklin Police Lieutenant Richard Verbosky. This is the first time Franklin Police have hosted this class.
