A routine crash investigation on Interstate 65 nearly turned into a much more serious incident early Wednesday morning when a driver slammed into a Franklin police patrol vehicle.
The crash happened around 3:30 a.m. near CoolSprings Galleria while Franklin police officers were investigating an earlier crash.
Police said the marked patrol vehicle was struck by a passing driver. Fortunately, the officer assigned to the cruiser was outside the vehicle at the time, and the driver was not injured.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol charged the driver with DUI and is leading the investigation.
