The City of Franklin has been awarded an $18,000 grant from the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) to help fund lighting upgrades in the 2nd Ave Parking Garage.

The City proposes to replace the existing metal halides with LED lighting which will lessen the maintenance burden on the City and also provide significant energy savings. Brighter lights also mean safer parking garages.

“The City anticipates a 2-3 year return-on-investment (ROI),” said City Administrator Eric Stuckey. “The total project cost is estimated at $32,000.  We appreciate TDEC for awarding us this clean energy grant.  Through this project, we will both improve the lighting in this public parking garage and be much more energy efficient.”

Last year, the City retrofitted the 4th Ave Parking Garage to LEDs and have seen an approximate 40 percent energy savings. The new LED lights in the Franklin parking garage improve safety and security, provide better light distribution, and have a much longer life cycle.
