Franklin on Foot Food Tour Heats Things Up

Third Saturdays of the month are heating up with the new Franklin on Foot Food Tour. Margie Thessin is launching another variety of the famed Franklin on Foot just a month after unveiling the bike tours and rentals. From 2-5 pm on these Saturdays groups of 6 to 20 people can participate in an exploration of Southern staples at six downtown restaurants.

The tour will include a bit of background behind each tasting and a 5 block walk through the city with a bit of history along the way. “Chapman’s Pie Wagon II, Franklin Mercantile Deli, Merridee’s Breadbasket, Puckett’s Grocery & Restaurant, Papa Boudreaux’s Cajun Café and 55 South are slated to offer their respective specialty dishes on the tour. Guests will sample everything from BBQ sliders and fried green tomatoes to oysters and gazpacho soup,” said Thessin.

The dinner will change each Saturday and the meal is not progressive, but each dish will reflect the eatery and the tour’s theme. “We may taste spicy gumbo after sampling a slice of sweet chess pie,” Thessin said. Basically, this is a moveable feast.”

The southern style food tour will be held on additional days and reservations are required a week in advance. It is a true bargain for just $45.
Alcohol is not included in the tour price but will be available at many of the participating locations.
