Franklin Mud Run Supports Wounded Veterans

Mud Run

The City of Franklin is getting down and dirty in their support of wounded veterans during this year’s Mud Run, a muddy obstacle course for all ages. The Mud Run is held in locations across the country and is coming to the Tap Root Farm in Franklin on May 3.

There are two different ways to do the run; you can either enter the 10K competition run with chances of winning a trophy, or you can enter as a DGAP runner and run either a 5K or a 10K. There is an individual male and female division in the competition run, which also has stricter rules about attire, group size and skipping obstacles. The DGAP division is the “fun run” division with no restrictions on attire, gender or group size. The time limit for the run is four hours, and it takes the average person about two hours to complete the course.

The organizers won’t release much information about the course ahead of time, but there are plenty of obstacles along the way, some requiring swimming, others requiring rope dexterity and climbing skills.

Sgt. Matthew Pennington, a wounded veteran, will be running a 5K in the Nashville Mud Run. Pennington is running to support the Coalition to Support America’s Heroes, and is building a team to run with him. If you register and enter the coupon code HERO2014, then 10 dollars will be given to the Coalition, which has helped Pennington through his challenges as an amputee. The team name is Salute to Heroes.

The Mud Run will also take place in Houston, Tex. and Fort Worth, Tex. later in May.
