Franklin Mayor Ken Moore to Designate June Alzheimer’s and Brain Health Awareness Month

Mayor Ken Moore will present a Proclamation to the Board of Mayor and Alderman, Tuesday, May 22nd, designating the month of June as Alzheimer’s Awareness month in the City of Franklin.

“Proclamations, such as this, will only help raise vital awareness needed for this disease,” states Nashville Walk to End Alzheimer’s Chair, Laura Musgrave.

Alzheimer’s is the third leading cause of death in Williamson County, with 114 individuals in the county losing their lives to Alzheimer’s in 2016. As a state, Tennessee ranks 7th in the nation in Alzheimer’s deaths with 120,000 Tennesseans struggling with the disease. An estimated 5.5 million people aged 65 and over have Alzheimer’s disease and another 200,000 people under age 65 have younger-onset Alzheimer’s disease.

Throughout the month of June, the Alzheimer’s Association will be working with the City and many local businesses and organizations to raise awareness and promote healthy lifestyle tips essential to maintaining optimal brain health.
