On Wednesday night,  the Franklin Lady Rebels basketball team lost to red hot Overton 57-44 in the AAA Region 6 Championship Game at Glen Cliff High School.

Overton, winner of 14 straight, took away any easy shots from Franklin and dominated the offensive boards. That and the Overton offense, led by Lady Bobcat Chelsea Nelson’s 27 points, kept Franklin from coming closer than seven points of the lead the entire second half.

After a slow start for both teams and Franklin up 8-7 after one quarter,  Overton shot out in the second quarter outscoring the Rebels 18-9 to take a 25-17 lead into halftime.

Anna Patton and Rachel Hawn both seniors both scored 11 to lead the Lady Rebels. The two seniors powered a late push, so that Overton outscored Franklin in the second half by only  five points, but the team could not undo the damage of shooting just 22 percent from the field in the first half.

Franklin’s season is not over, however, because the top two teams from regionals advance to state sectionals. On Saturday at 7 p.m. Franklin plays at another team on a long winning streak, Mt. Juliet, winner of 23-straight.

Franklin’s boys team played Tuesday night for a chance at the Thursday night AAA Region 6 championship, but lost to Hunters Lane.

The Brentwood boys will play Hunters Lane Thursday at 7 p.m. at Glen Cliff High School for the regional title.
