Michael Brown of Franklin High School has won the Tennessee Boys State Samsung scholarship, awarded to one boy from the state as part of the American Legion Boys State program held at Tennessee Tech in May. He is now a finalist for the national scholarship to be awarded this fall. Samsung established the scholarship in honor of those who served in the Korean War.
Boys State is among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for high school students, and Tennessee’s American Legion Boys State holds a high reputation as the number one Boys State program in the nation. It is a participatory program where each student becomes a part of the operation of his local, county and state government. The 450 Tennessee students selected to attend received instruction and counsel from military leaders and state and local government officials, including Gov. Bill Lee.
