On Wednesday, May 18, Franklin High School’s TV and Film Production students will host the premiere of “Captain Franklin – The Fork Awakens” at The Franklin Theatre.
This red carpet event will be a community event celebrating the work of the students. There will be sponsor giveaways, a behind the scenes video, and a free take home gift at the end of the night. Proceeds from the show – which is sold out – will benefit the Franklin High School TV and Film Production Program.
The story of Captain Franklin was created in 2012 when the senior class created a mini-series for the school’s daily news show. The basic story line was an average student (Patrick Nichols) who had a secret identity (Captain Franklin) defeating villains in the school.
This year, the TV and Film students brought back the “Captain Franklin” series with a new style, new special effects and a new cast. More than 60 students have been involved with the creation of the five episodes released thus far. Students have had the opportunity to write episodes, light scenes, run audio, script supervise, assistant direct, and edit the show. They have also been collaborating with theater students, digital art and design students and students from Centennial High’s TV and Film program.
The first episode won first place at the Tennessee High School Press Association awards. It also won the award for Best Fiction by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
