The Franklin High School Saxophone Quartet will be joining their percussion peers in Indianapolis this March.

The FHS Percussion Ensemble was invited to participate in the 2017 Music For All National Festival last September, but now they’ll have some good company after the FHS Saxophone Quartet received an invite to the festival as well on January 25.

“This is a well-deserved honor earned through countless hours of hard work and dedication,” said Franklin High School Principal Willie Dickerson.

The 2017 Music For All National Festival will take place in Indianapolis from March 9-11. The FHS Saxophone Ensemble will be one of just 10 chamber ensembles to perform.

The quartet consists of senior Allie Minucci and juniors Jason Frazier, Jordan Hafner and Austin Sparks.

The four saxophone players have been together for three years, but this was their first time to submit an audition application.

They are under the direction of Franklin High School Assistant Band Director Jacob Campos.

To earn their spot in the festival, the group joined ensembles from across the country in applying for the performance opportunity. Applicants prepared and recorded 20 minutes of audition music, which was judged by renowned adjudicators from across the nation through Music for All. Applicants were only allowed to record or play literature of the highest quality from the standard saxophone quartet repertoire.

“These students represent that highest levels of musicianship and teamwork,” Campos said. “Their dedication and discipline have been unparalleled, and I’m delighted to see them recognized with this incredible performance opportunity.”
