Franklin Firefighters Fill Their Boots

The Franklin Fire Department and the Franklin Firefighters Association Local 3758, along with the Muscular Dystrophy Association, have officially kicked off the “Fill the Boot” fundraising campaign. Firefighters fanned out across the city with boots in hand for this year’s drive. The campaign started Thurs, Sept 10th and continues today, Friday, Sept. 18, at various streets and intersections across the city. See exact times and locations below.

MDA Fill the BootThis 60-year tradition helps save and improve the lives of people fighting muscle disease in the local area. Firefighters have fueled MDA’s mission to find treatments and cures for these life-threatening illnesses that take away people’s abilities to walk, move, smile, talk and even breathe.

“For more than six decades firefighters have stood on the front lines for MDA, striving to make a difference in the lives of those affected by muscle disease,” said MDA Executive Director Ashley Davis, in a press release. “Firefighters do more for MDA and the families we serve than any other group, dedicating countless hours of their time every year participating in Fill the Boot drives and at MDA Summer Camp. We’re grateful for the support of these inspiring, selfless individuals who have made a profound impact on our families’ health, well-being and quality of life, and we’re excited to make this year’s Fill the Boot campaign the most successful yet.”

According to the MDA, funds raised through the 2015 Franklin Fill the Boot event support MDA’s life-enhancing programs such as state-of-the-art support groups and clinics, including the MDA Clinic at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville. Kids with muscle disease are also able to enjoy MDA summer camp at The Center for Courageous Kids in Scottsville, KY, and nearly 80 other locations nationwide through monies raised.
