The Franklin Christian Academy Falcon Players presents “Newsies” May 2-4, 2019.
“Newsies” is a musical based on the New York City newsboy strike of 1899. When young newspaper sellers are exploited beyond reason by their bosses they set out to enact change and are met by the ruthlessness of big business.
Disney Pictures produced the musical film in 1992. The film was an initial box office bomb and received negative to mixed reviews at the time of its release, but later gained a large cult following. It was later adapted into a highly successful stage adaptation on Broadway that was nominated for eight Tony Awards, winning two.
Now you have a chance to see local students tell the “Newsies” story.

Arts at FCA
At FCA, the arts are a high priority. Their art program is inspired by Matthew 5:15, which says “No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house.”
FCA students learn the foundations of music, theatre and visual art in grades 5-8.
In high school, students choose an area of focus each academic year, from the following: visual art, music, theatre, and media/technical arts. Building on what they learned in middle school, students are exposed in greater depth to areas of art, music, and theatre history.
The annual high school theatre production integrates every aspect of the arts at FCA in a collaborative effort which allows music and theatre students to perform in a full-length play or musical. Students not performing in the production utilize both STEM and arts knowledge through design and production of the set, costumes, lighting, sound, and video, as well as posters, programs, and social media components.
