On Wednesday, Franklin Road Academy seniors Kenny Cooper and Peyton Warren signed their letters of intent to play at the collegiate level during a signing day ceremony. Cooper will play basketball on scholarship at Lipscomb University, and Warren will attend the University of West Alabama on a baseball scholarship.FRA Cooper and Warren

Cooper, a multiple-sport athlete, has excelled on the court over the last two seasons averaging 17 points, more than four rebounds, five assists and over three steals per game as the point guard for the Panthers. “On the basketball court, Kenny can absolutely dominate a game on both ends of the floor,” says Coach John Pierce. “Defensively, he has the best hands of any player I have ever coached. On the offensive end his quickness and shooting ability make him a threat every time he touches the ball.”

He is also a proven leader on and off the court. “He sacrifices for, encourages, and leads his teammates in every practice and in every game. It is rare for the best player on the team to be the best teammate, but that is exactly who Kenny is.”

Warren has been an incremental piece to the Panther baseball team during the last two seasons both as a pitcher and hitter. On the mound, he has a record of 11-2, an ERA of 1.85, 87 strikeouts and just 27 walks, while compiling a .342 batting average and .467 on-base percentage at the plate.

“Peyton’s success can be attributed to the hard work both on the baseball field and in the weight room. He has done all he could to improve his skills and strength and this has paid off for him. His competitive spirit is also a huge component in his contribution to the team, and he has earned the role of number one pitcher as a senior,” says Coach George Weicker.

Both Cooper and Warren will look to build upon their junior season success. Cooper will look to lead the Panther basketball team to another District Championship, while Warren and the Panther baseball team prepare to make another State Tournament run this spring.
