Fort Granger Needs Volunteers for Park Day!

This Saturday, April 6th the focus is on cleaning up area parks in Williamson County. The Parks & Rec Department are once again participating in the Civil War Trust Sponsored 17th Annual Park Day. The nationwide event focuses on raising community awareness of historic sites. The goal this year is to beautify Fort Granger in preparation for the sesquicentennial anniversary of the Battle of Franklin

Join volunteers from 8:30 a.m. until Noon by signing up via email to [email protected], or go to www.franklintn.gov/parks to download the registration form. Activities include mulching; removing vegetation; planting new shrubs and trees; making planter beds; and cleaning up trash. Volunteers should bring gloves, safety glasses, pruners, rakes, or small hand saws.  They should also bring bug spray and wear appropriate clothes and shoes.  Volunteers must be at least 10 years old; all minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

“As we get closer to the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Franklin we want to make sure our Civil War sites are ready for the tourists we expect to visit us in 2014 to commemorate the occasion,” says Parks Director Lisa Clayton.  “We’re so thankful for the volunteers who continue to come out and support this great event.”
