Former Indy Player Arrested for Assault

According to MLive, Michigan Wolverine and former Independence football stand-out Nate Johnson was arrested by campus police following an alleged assault this weekend.

Diane Brown, spokesperson for the University of Michigan Division of Public Safety and Security, told MLive on Monday that Johnson, 19, was arrested on campus in the early morning hours of Saturday for an attack on a female student.

Details of the incident were not immediately clear, but the alleged victim was located at a dorm room on campus, Brown said.

Johnson, who was a star on the Independence Eagles 2015-16 undefeated state-championship season, is a sophomore cornerback for the Michigan football team.

Charging documents specify the incident took place at 600 E. Madison in Ann Arbor, where the South Quad dormitory is located, according to 15th District Court records.

Johnson and the female victim were in a dating relationship, records say.

Johnson was arraigned Sunday on one count of misdemeanor domestic violence, which is punishable by 93 days in jail and/or a $500 fine.

Johnson, who told the magistrate he only had $90 in the bank, was appointed a public defender, according to records.

He was jailed after being arrested, then released on a $5,000 personal recognizance bond by the magistrate.

The terms of his bond state that Johnson is only to be on campus for class and other official university activities, records indicate.
