Forest Hills Farmer’s Market Not to Return This Year

The farmer’s market at Forest Hills United Methodist Church, on Old Hickory Blvd in Brentwood, has been offering seasonal produce to the community for six summers. However, the Forest Hills UMC Market will not open this summer.

“With new markets popping up each year, there is now competition for vendors and customers alike. After much thought, conversation and prayer, we have decided that it is time to say good-bye to our Farmers Market,” states their Facebook Page.

The Forest Hills UMC Market was unique in that there was no charge for the growers to participate; instead they were asked to donate portions of their fresh produce each week to Feed America First, a local hunger relief organization serving Middle Tennessee. Because of this, the Market was able to provide fresh produce, meats and baked good for 40 families weekly, reports Forest Hills UMC.

Hundreds of locals visited the Market each summer and the church is thankful to all the shoppers, vendors and supporters and writes “In the tradition of the farmers we’ve come to know and love, we’re going to let this ground lie fallow for awhile and allow time for new ideas and visions for outreach and community engagement grow.”
