Indy the Amazing Touchdown Machine

indyboxscore

If the regular season for very good teams is about warming up for the playoffs then Indy must be nearly thermonuclear.

The Eagles basically melted Franklin County down on Friday night, taking a 42-0 lead into halftime and winning 42-7.

If only the visitors locker room had been retrofitted as a fallout shelter.

For the second straight week Indy (9-0, 6-0 in Region 5-5A and No. 1 in 5A)  exploded through the air early, dropping more than 40 first half points on a region opponent.

Speaking of which, the Eagles have clinched a district title and so will be Region  5-5A champs come win, lose or zombie apocalypse next Friday at LaVergne in the last game of the season.

Indy Getting A Little Better Each Weekindy-frankco-leaders

“There is always little stuff to work on, because when you start getting into this part of the season every play matters,” Scott Blade, Indy head coach, said. “We will go back to the drawing board, clean up a few areas and come out a little better next Friday.”

But on this Friday- senior night for Indy- Daniel Wright represented.

The senior running back, who scored three total touchdowns, led Indy with 159 yards from scrimmage.

His first trip to the end zone, a 1-yard run with  8:36 left in the first quarter, gave the Eagles a 7-0 lead.

And when Indy got the ball back about three minutes later he found an opening in the line and broke away for a 64-yard touchdown run.

Later in the half Wright, who rushed for 79 yards on 5 carries, scored Indy’s sixth and final touchdown on a 78 -yard catch-and-run from Andrew Bunch with just more than a minute left in the half.

Bunch, who threw his third touchdown of the game on that play, put up big numbers yet again.

After tossing six scores last week he settled for half  that many against the Rebels, on 15 for 22 passing for 258 yards.

Wright, with 2 catches for 80 yards, led Indy in yards receiving while Nate Johnson (56 yards) and Adam Swayze (50 yards) each caught four passes.

All of this in the first half- Indy sent in the reserves to start the third quarter.

On offense the Eagles gained 450 yards to 210 by FrankCo.

Next week Indy finishes its regular season at second-place LaVergne (6-3, 4-2 Region 5-5A).
