On Friday night in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs, Independence picked up where it left off in the regular season, beating visiting Cane Ridge 49-7.
Independence (11-0) got another big game from quarterback Andrew Bunch, who scored a bunch of touchdowns with his legs instead of his arm for a change, as the Eagles took a 42-7 halftime lead.
Independence jumped out to an insurmountable lead so quickly it left Cane Ridge (8-3) looking stunned, almost on on auto-pilot as the game went on for a couple of quarters after Cane Ridge clearly would not.
The Eagles do, however. Go on to round two.
The first three scores of the game were 25, 31 and 3 yard runs by Bunch, who led Indy in rushing with 92 yards on 8 carries.
The All-State quarterback threw 7 for 13 for 135 yards and a touchdown, which went to Seth Huner.
Nate Johnson led Indy with 2 catches for 49 yards; he had 23 yards rushing, also. Huner caught 2 passes for 47 yards. Daniel Wright, the Indy workhorse back all year, pitched in with 4 carries for 42 yards and a touchdown.

Four players scored in the 28-point Indy second quarter: Bunch, Huner, Wright and Hunter Dupree, who returned an interception 28-yards to the house.
Cane Ridge actually outgained Indy, 316 to 292 total yards, but many of the Ravens yards came after Indy had won the game all-but officially.
Next week in the second round Indy hosts No. 2 seed Hendersonville (10-1).
