Father Ryan hit a second-half skid  this season that they could not steer out of in Round one.  For the second time in three weeks the Fighting Irish lost at Ensworth.

The Fighting Irish season ended Friday night in a 29-19 loss at Ensworth in the first round of the Division II-AA playoffs.

The Fighting Irish did put up one heck of a fight, though, taking a 19-14 lead into the half, but the Tigers shut them out while scoring 15 points in the second half.

Statistically it was a lopsided game, with Ensworth literally running over Father Ryan- the Tigers rushed for 228 yards and 4 touchdowns  on 42 attempts. On the other hand the Fighting managed just 36 yards on 36 attempts.

Father Ryan saw some success in the air, putting up 148 yards and a score, while Ensworth hardly bothered with the forward pass- attempting 9 passes and completing 4 for 35 yards.

In the first quarter the Fighting Irish scored first, on a 25-yard Patrick Brouill field goal. Ensworth responded with a 31-yard Nicky Clifton run for a score.

After Darius Morehead scored on a 7-yard run to give Ensworth a 14-3 lead, Father Ryan made a push and went on a 16-point run to end the first half.

Zach Pfeifer (9 for 19 for 148 yards, TD, INT) scored on a 1-yard run.  Then he found  B.J. Bishop  (2 catches, 80 yards, TD) for a 67-yard touchdown pass. Before the half Brouill hit a 21-yard field goal.

But in the second half the Ensworth running game simply could not be stopped.

Clifton (14 carries, 133 yards) and Morehead (24 carries, 80 yards) took over the game and led the comeback.

Morehead scored on a 1-yard run in the third and the fourth quarter, ending the Fighting Irish season.

The teams faced each other, also at Ensworth, two weeks ago with much the same outcome. Father Ryan lost 37-17.
