Fellow beer enthusiasts raise your glass and toast the wisdom of the Tennessee legislature at their support of the Fix the Beer Tax Reform Act of 2013. The landslide votes in both the House and Senate show that lawmakers will respond to the request of their constituents.
Rep. Cameron Sexton, House sponsor said, “In a historically low tax state, Tennessee’s 1950s-era triple layer beer tax has been no friend to businesses… It was simply time for a change in the tax structure and everyone involved is honored to have enjoyed such sweeping support.”
Mark Kamp at Turtle Anarchy Brewing Company said, “It’s great that the state government has finally realized how punitive the wholesale tax really is. Hopefully, this is only the first of many more reforms that will bring TN into the 21st century.”
The real victor in the fight is the consumer who will no longer pay the added tax. Social media and well attended rallies across the state brought on a flood of support against the “tax that ales us. Lower taxes and great times are on tap in Tennessee,” said the release from the Fix the Beer Tax team.
