It’s the second location for Marcy Jo’s in Columbia. The first one – Marcy Jo’s Mealhouse opened back in 2007 in an abandoned general store by country musician Rory Feek’s wife Joey and Rory’s sister Marcy.
Opening only one week ago, Marcy Jo’s Muletown has been well received by the community often with a line out the door. The second location is also in the family as Feek’s sister Candy will oversee the restaurant and her daughter Rachel will serve as the General Manager.
There are several similarities between the two establishments – the famous cinnamon rolls, Coca-Cola cake, and all of the handmade bread which is brought over daily from their bakery, breakfast items, and the June Burger.
But the new location saw a need to provide a breakfast option for downtown Columbia. You can eat breakfast all day long from 7 a – 2 p. Diners can also find lighter options like salads with grilled chicken, avocado toast, fruit, and sandwiches.
Inside you will find gift items to take home like Marcy Jo’s Muletown mug, t-shirts, stickers, Rory Feek’s children’s book, and Rory and Joey music. You will even find a replica of the front facade of the original Mary Jo’s Mealhouse inside.
There’s more to come for Marcy Jo’s, they are planning a grab and go section of salads, and sandwiches for those who work close by or visitors.
In the back of the restaurant, a bar is under construction where they will eventually serve wine and beer once they have their license. The second Saturday of each month, they will host a songwriters night, likened to that of the Bluebird.
And while we visited Marcy Jo’s Muletown we learned there’s a cooking show in the works. “More Than a Meal” with sisters Marcy and Candy will air on RFD. The thirty minute show will feature recipes from the two restaurants as they tell stories from their childhood. Candy told us some of the recipes will be completely different since Marcy Jo’s is also a meat and three with their signature dishes of fried catfish and fried chicken.
Marcy Jo’s Muletown is located at 105 East 6th Street, Columbia. Open seven days a week from 7 a – 2 p. Follow Marcy Jo’s Muletown on Facebook for the latest updates.
