First Game Proves Golden For Nashville FC

As the chants of “Come on you boys in gold” rained down from the 850 supporters in attendance, Nashville FC defeated Peachtree City MOBA 1-0 in a friendly match at Vanderbilt Stadium. A Brian McNamara goal in the 62nd minute proved to be the difference in the game.

On a beautiful Saturday evening, Nashville FC dominated much of the first half, notching the majority of the shots and controlling possession. Despite the opportunities, NFC’s shots were blocked, poked away, sailed wide, or were Nashville FCsaved by the MOBA goalie, who turned in a stellar performance. The Nashville FC defense was able to minimize the opportunities for Peachtree City during the first 45 minutes.

In the second half, NFC kept their pressure up offensively. An early shot sailed just over the crossbar in the 49th minute. Minutes later, Peachtree City received their first yellow card of the match. Nashville FC controlled possession, when they forced two corner kicks. Off the second corner, the MOBA goalie stopped the initial NFC shot, but McNamara buried the rebound in the back of the net to put the boys in gold up 1-0. After the goal, Nashville FC settled back defensively and allowed Peachtree City to apply the most pressure they had the entire game. NFC would be able to get one final push and minimized MOBA’s late opportunity. The final whistle blew to give Nashville FC their first win of the season.

“We haven’t trained that much, but once those first five minutes wore off in the game, I thought we played really, really well,” said Nashville FC coach Kyle Roelke. “We’ve got to get better in the attacking third. We had too many turnovers, but we’re going to work on it.”

Nashville FC plays their final friendly contest next week against Sandy Springs FC from Georgia, before opening NPSL Southeast play the following Thursday at home against New Orleans. All home games will be held at Vanderbilt Stadium at 7 PM.
