The Brentwood Library has established a local chapter of the non-profit, The Harry Potter Alliance, and will host a kick-off meeting Jan. 9 from 2:00-5:00 p.m. Ages 6+ are encouraged to attend and enjoy series-themed snacks and activities.
The chapter’s first event celebrates Hogwarts Potions Master and Head of Sytherin House, Severus Snape’s birthday and will be hosted in the Children’s Department.
“We’ve titled our local chapter The Chamber of Knowledge,” says Library Circulation Supervisor Heather Lanier. “The Harry Potter Alliance does wonderful things, and hope to do the same in our community.”
With chapters all over the world, The Harry Potter Alliance is a non-profit organization comprised of fans that want to change the world through the power of story. Since 2005, the group has engaged millions around the globe to work for social changes such as human rights, literacy, and the environment.
The organization’s projects have been mentioned in publications such as The New York Times, The LA Times, and the Guardian. They engaged over 400,000 fans in partnership with Walk Free that resulted in Warner Bros. changing the sourcing of their Harry Potter chocolate to be 100 percent UTZ or Fairtrade. They also sent five cargo planes of life-saving supplies to Haiti and raised over $123,000 for Partners in Health.
Other chapters in Tennessee include S.P.E.W. at Belmont University and The Music City Marauders, both in Nashville, and the Martin Marauders in Pulaski, TN.
The meeting will take place at the Brentwood Library, located at 8109 Concord Road. All are welcome and the event is free.
