National Donut Day was originally established in 1938 by the Chicago Salvation Army to honor women who served donuts to soldiers during World War I. The holiday is traditionally celebrated on the first Friday of June.

Ellie’s Old Fashioned Doughnuts– A mainstay at the Franklin Farmers Market each Saturday  from 8am-1pm. So you will have to wait an extra day to score one of their doughnuts. Last week they introduced a vegan option in the traditional cinnamon sugar flavor and chocolate glaze.
