Fightin’ Irish Take over FRA

By: Amber Pennycuff

Lady Panthers fall 25-41 to the Father Ryan Fightin’ Irish

The Lady Irish tipped off with a 3-point shot to rule the night.  FRA shortly followed to take the lead, 7-5 and left the 1st period with a neck-and-neck 9-7 score.

Into the 2nd, the Lady Panthers struggled to take a sure lead, while Father Ryan put up 10-points on the board in the period.  FRA’s Maggie Weeks was a big influence with a 3-pointer right as she entered the game.

The ladies ended the first half with FRA down 12-20 to Father Ryan.

Heading back into the 3rd period, the Irish’s Sarah Gromos was on fire with another three points to the board and held off the Panthers to six-points.

Father Ryan had nearly ten points in the 3rd to roll over into the 4th, 18-31.

FRA continued to fight hard, but had some obstacles in its way.  Gromos dominated the court once again with another three to bring the game 21-37.  With seconds left, the Fightin’ Irish sealed its 25-41 lead over the Panthers to take the win.

Father Ryan Puts up 35-points in the Second Half to Steal Win from FRA

If you were not at this game, you missed out.  This had to be one of the biggest comebacks all year long.

Tipping off, Father Ryan’s Joseph Bauer put up three only minutes into the game, but the Fightin’ Irish couldn’t keep up in the first.  FRA’s Kenny Cooper ignited the court to put the Panthers on top with a three.

Heading into the second, the score was 11-5 with FRA in the lead, and the Panthers were dominating the court.  Panther Rob Marberry had an influential period with a dunk to seal the deal before halftime, bringing the score 22-7.

Father Ryan must have had one of those memorable speeches in the locker room because the Fightin’ Irish came back swinging.

The Irish put up a total of 35-points in the second half and held FRA to 15-points the rest of the game.

Father Ryan’s Slate Rider showed up to the game, igniting the court every other score.  Ending the third, Alex Ariola had two missed shots, but put it right back up to tie the game 26-26 at the beginning of the 4th.

This was the ball game everyone had been looking for.

The last period must have been the time for 3-point shots because both teams put up six points within the first two-minutes of the game.  The Fightin’ Irish put up 18-points alone in the fourth.

Rider and Ariola were extremely influential in the last half, as well as Bauer.  When it came down to seconds, Father Ryan held the ball and took the win back home.
