The gifts are open and now it’s time to look toward the new year! Why not start it out with a challenge like no other – the Fernvale Freeze, formerly the Fernvale Polar Plunge. It’s more than just a fun family event, it’s also a fundraiser for the Friends of the Fairview Public Library and the Fairview Family and Community (FCE) Club.

“This is the 8th year. It’s a really fun event that attracts dozens of families every year both for the Wrap around the Harpeth and the jump into Whippoorwill Pond,” said Friends President Cheryl Hamilton. “We invite everyone to come join us and make the Fernvale Freeze part of their holiday. It is a great family event”

The Fernvale Freeze will be held at Camp Whippoorwill on January 1st. It begins at 1 p.m. with the Wrap around the Harpeth which gives families a chance to enjoy either a 5 mile or 3 mile hike to get warmed up and ready. The plunge into Whippoorwill pond is at 3 p.m.

Every year, people of all ages come donning costumes and enjoy a fire, hot chocolate and photographs with the mascot, Wendall the Penguin. Jumpers are encouraged to get donations from friends and families as incentive. An after party will be held at the Fernvale Community Church, just across the street from Camp Whippoorwill. This is a great place to meet friends and brag on the brave who took the leap.

The Wrap around the Harpeth kicks off at 1 p.m. with the 5 mile hike at Camp Whippoorwill, 7840 Whippooorwill Lane in Fairview. The 3 mile hike will leave at 1:30 and the Fernvale Freeze begins at 3 p.m. We look forward to seeing you there to support the Friends of the Fairview Public Library and Fairview Family and Community (FCE) Club.
