TheFather Ryan Fightin’ Irish ran away with the win in their homecoming game against the Stratford Spartans, winning 49 – 16.

Father Ryan (4-2, 1-1 in AA Division II) started slow Friday night, losing 8 to 7 after the first quarter. Then they scored 42 points in the time Stratford scored 8 more.

The Irish running game dominated so much that coach Bruce Lussier felt no risk in pulling his starters for the entire fourth quarter. Even that did not slow the scoring down as the second team increased the 35-16 lead by two touchdowns.

The Irish finished with 341 yards and 6 touchdowns on the ground.

Father Ryan won this game by running, with fullback Joseph Holzmer and running back Dekeivis Perry leading the way. Holzmer ran 12 times for 110 yards and 2 touchdowns. Perry, the playmaker, ran 6 times for 88 yards and touchdown runs of 55 and 15 yards. Andrew Rector and Jackson Dubois added a rushing touchdown each.

After receiving to start the game, Stratford’s first drive took up half the first quarter, moving the ball 80 yards in 11 plays that ended in a Corey Simmons receiving touchdown.

The Spartans would not score on offense again.

Father Ryan answered almost immediately, however, when on their first offensive play of the game Perry flew 55 yards for his first touchdown.

After that there was no turning back. The score would have been even more lopsided if Perry had not thrown an interception deep in Spartan territory late in the second quarter on a halfback option-pass. Stratford’s Anthony Bassham returned it 90 yards for a touchdown.

We had some guys who were injured this week, and we have some things to work on that we could have done better in this game,” Father Ryan coach Bruce Lussier said. “Now we have a bye week to get everyone healthy and prepare for MBA.”

The Irish next play on October 11th at home against Montgomery Bell Academy (5-1, 2-0 in AA Division II) an in-conference match up. In fact, the remaining four games this season for Father Ryan are in-conference.

Quarterback Cameron Towns had an easy and efficient day, completing 4 of 6 passes for 93 yards. Rector added 2 catches for 41 yards. He also had an interception.
