Only in high school football can a Father hold it over a Pope.
At Pope John Paul II on Friday night by a score of 30-22 the Fighting Irish got a district win and to hold the Bishop’s Cup for yet another year.

The Fighting Irish lost last week to McCallie, and the pressure was on to win this week in its second straight district game.
Father Ryan (3-1, 1-1) has now won nine of its last 11 games against Division II-AA East/Middle rival PJPII.
After jumping ahead 9-0 in the first quarter, PJPII (1-3, 0-2) lost its momentum. The Fighting Irish scored 17 straight second quarter points for a 17-9 halftime lead.
Father Ryan quarterback Zach Pfeifer ran in a 1-yard touchdown, then minutes later he found Sage Warren for a 33-yard touchdown pass. Patrick Brouillette added a 37-yard field goal.
In the second half, the teams traded touchdowns twice, but PJPII could not catch up.
Pfeifer, who finished 7 for 12 for 107 yards and 3 touchdowns, found Warren again in the third quarter for a 28-yard score. Warren led Father Ryan with 3 catches for 73 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Collin Brown led the Fighting Irish with 14 carries for 122 yards rushing and a touchdown.
Next week, Father Ryan goes to Evangelical Christrian School (0-4).
