Father Ryan Runs by Hillwood

As far as debuts go, football coaches can’t do much better than Brian Rector in his first game at the helm of the Father Ryan Fightin’ Irish on Friday.

The Irish travelled to Hillwood and outran the Hilltoppers, scoring 48 points in the first half en route to a 48-6 victory.

Father Ryan attempted just four passes in the game and connected on one for 12 yards. With the kind of night they had rushing, though, the Irish didn’t need to go through the air.

Seven players had at least one rush for Father Ryan, led by Jackson Byrd’s 123 yards and three touchdowns on 11 carries. Quarterback Jay Shoop added 79 yards on eight carries with two scores.

Just like what was his calling card for five years as the head coach of Centennial, Rector’s defense was dominant Friday night. The Hilltoppers managed just 72 total yards of offense, 15 of which came on the ground in 25 rushing attempts.

The Irish will hope that dominant defense and rushing attack will carry on to next week, as they welcome Clarksville Northeast in their home opener.
