Father Ryan students will host Relay for Life this Saturday, September 30, from Noon until 10 p.m. at Giacosa Stadium in the Jim Carell Alumni Athletic Complex on the campus of Father Ryan High School.
The event is expected to attract dozens of teams and more than 1,100 participants for the day-long Relay. The event raises funds for the American Cancer Society, and last year the Father Ryan Relay for Life raised more than $176,000 for cancer research.
Several events will take place during the day:
– The opening ceremony and parade of cancer survivors and fighters around the track will begin the event at noon
-Special booth open all day for students to receive haircuts to provide hair for cancer survivor wigs. Last year more than 100 participants sat and donated their hair.
-Tents and booths throughout the complex offering food and drink and other items to raise money.
In addition, there will be:
6:15 – Mass
9:00 – Lighting of the luminaries—candles symbolizing the hope and prayers for specific cancer survivors.
