After it was announced Chris Ladd was leaving his position as boys’ basketball coach at Summit, the Spartans stayed within their walls to find both his replacement. Summit’s girls’ basketball coach Josh Goodwin will move from the girls’ bench to the boys’. With Goodwin moving, his wife and assistant coach Kari will become the head girls’ coach for the Spartans.

Josh Goodwin has led the Spartan girls for the past three seasons. This year, the Lady Spartans won the most games in a season in program history (16), finished second in District 11-AAA, made their first regional tournament and won their first regional tournament game in school history. For the accomplishments Summit achieved this year, Goodwin was named District 11-AAA girls’ coach of the year. In his three seasons at the helm of the Lady Spartans, Goodwin went 36-50 overall.

The Summit ladies head coaching job will not be the first AAA coaching job for Kari Goodwin. Before serving as an assistant for her husband this past season, Goodwin was the head coach for three seasons for Franklin. During her time with the Lady Rebels, Kari Goodwin led Franklin to their first sub-state appearance in more than a decade and was named coach of the year during the 2013-2014season. Kari Goodwin’s record with Franklin was 44-45. Before her time at Franklin, Goodwin was an assistant at Riverdale, where the Lady Warriors finished the 2010-2011season as runners-up and won the state championship the following season.

Chris Ladd will be leaving the Spartans to become the girls’ basketball coach at Nolensville High School. Ladd had been the only boys’ coach in Summit history, with a 61-80 record over his five seasons in Thompson’s Station. Before he coached the Spartans, Ladd served as the boys’ basketball coach at Page.
