Familiar Face Retuning To BA Wrestling Mats

After winning a Super Bowl as part of an 11-year NFL career, 1999 Brentwood Academy alumnus Scott Wells is returning to Granny White Pike to become the new wrestling coach for the Eagles.

During his time wrestling for the Eagles, Wells went undefeated during his two-years with Brentwood Academy. Wells took home the state championship in his weight class both seasons as well. In 1998, he was named the number one heavyweight wrestler in the nation and was state of Tennessee MVP.

Beyond his times on the mats, Wells starred for the Eagles’ football team. He was named 1998 Mr. Football in Division II-A before heading to the University of Tennessee. After being a four-year letter winner at UT, Wells was drafted in the seventh round by the Green Bay Packers. During his time with the Packers, he was named to the Pro Bowl in 2011. As the Packers’ starting center, he was a member of their Super Bowl XLV-winning team. Wells would later sign with the Rams through 2014.

Athletic Director Cody White made the announcement to students and parents saying, “It is an honor to have Scott back at BA in this role. I have gotten to know him better over the past year as he has helped out with our middle football program. There is no doubt that his character and devotion to the school’s mission will be huge assets to the young men who participate in our wrestling program.”

“Wrestling is a sport like no other,” said Wells. “It requires you to push yourself beyond the breaking point on a daily basis in pursuit of greatness. Lessons are taught on the wrestling mat that carry over into every aspect of your life. I’m extremely grateful to Coach White, Curt Masters, and the entire Brentwood Academy family for trusting me with this opportunity to help young men become all they should be through the great sport of wrestling.”
