Gracious Spaces: Fall Porch Inspirations

By Jennifer Ingram,Owner, Gracious Spaces in Brentwood, TN

Fall is one of the most inspiring times of the year with the cool, crisp air and fall foliage all around. You don’t have to look much further than your yard to find inspiration when decorating your front porch. Whether that’s hydrangeas, mums, pinecones, leaves, branches, or corn stalks, there are almost endless possibilities.

With the help of your local pumpkin farm or grocery store you can easily fill in the gaps with apple baskets, pumpkins, gourds, hay bales, scarecrows, and wreaths.

Incorporate other items from the yard or garage to add depth, texture, and dimension to your arrangements. Do you have an old wood ladder in the barn or garage? Pull it out and lean it against the house for a casual, welcoming touch. Galvanized buckets, wood crates, or wine barrels elevate and showcase pumpkins and plants. Corn stalks and homemade wood signs create height and texture. Lanterns, wreaths, urns, burlap, dried leaves, and Indian corn are also fun decorating accessories to work into your porch arrangement.

Make your front porch unique to you. Start decorating with the basics you know you want to use. Then add layers on to your arrangement and step back. Sometimes it takes several tries before you reach the “perfect” look. Go for a symmetrical look with planters or urns on either side of the front door or switch it up this year with a ladder or small table for drama. The good thing is that you will make your space a one-of-a-kind that no one else has. Enjoy exploring your creative side this season while giving your home that warm, welcoming curb appeal!
