Dr. Juli Oyer is earning statewide recognition for her work as principal at Fairview High School.

This month, she was named the recipient of the 2017-18 Field Award for Excellence in Tennessee Secondary School Leadership from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.

The Field Award recognizes an outstanding secondary school leader who demonstrates leadership excellence and commitment to strong core values such as social justice, compassion and community.

“This is one of the most prestigious awards available to secondary school principals in Tennessee,” said University of Tennessee Associate Professor and Graduate Program Coordinator Pam Angelle. “This is a tribute to Dr. Oyer’s leadership, the school she leads, and the district in which she works.”

It’s an honor Oyer does not take lightly.

“To be recognized for such characteristics as candor, courage, social justice, persistence, and service is humbling beyond measure,” said Oyer. “As educational leaders we all get up daily and simply do the work we believe we are called to do. There are moments that make us pause and realize the power of the work in the eyes of others. This is one of those moments. I am thankful to represent Fairview High and Williamson County and all the good work happening by good people every day.”

This is the second time in the last three years that a WCS principal has been chosen for this honor. Former Centennial High Principal Dr. Leigh Webb won the award in 2016.
