In a battle of undefeated teams Friday, the Fairview Yellowjackets found just enough magic to keep their streak rolling.
The Yellowjackets (4-0) needed everything they could get, squeaking by the previously unbeaten Waverly Central Tigers (3-1) 27-26.
Fairview may not have blown the doors off offensively, gaining just 287 yards on 53 plays, but it did just enough to get to a Tigers’ defense that was only giving up nine points per game going into Friday.
Senior Jake Beathard was the leader offensively for the Yellowjackets, rushing 18 times for 107 yards and three touchdowns. He also had four receptions for 35 yards.
Fairview quarterback Kam Harris-Lusk connected on 10 of 14 passes for 125 yards. His favorite target was Sam Sanborn, who had 70 receiving yards on four catches.
The undefeated Yellowjackets are off next week before taking their act on the road Sept. 23 to play against Hickman County (2-1). The Bulldogs lost to Harpeth 48-28 Friday and were crushed by Fairview 48-14 last season.
