Williamson County has a long history which involves horses, breeding and a general love for these fine animals. It stands to reason that Steeple Chase is on everyone’s mind right now. The Iroquois Steeple Chase 2013 is held at Percy Warner Park and attracts more than 25,000 spectators. Mark your calendar for May 11th and join the crowds for an exciting day of racing.

Steeple Chase is considered the rite of spring event for Nashville and offers a great time for the family. 2013 marks the 72nd running of the event which has chosen to partner with Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt since 1981. The charity has received more than $9 million in proceeds since the partnering.

Gates open at 11 a.m. and the first race is at 1 p.m. Make sure you wear your special hat to the event it is tradition. Tickets are available in advance and children 12 and under are free. Tailgating is a big deal at the race and spots must be reserved in advance. Tailgating in the parking lot begins at 8 a.m.

“Our sponsors and race organizers work hard every year to create a jam-packed day of fun for everyone who attends the races,” said Libby Cheek, executive director of the Iroquois Steeplechase. “With pre-race shopping events, a new family area, kid-friendly activities, food trucks, text-in updates and more, this year is no exception.”

Hospitality tents, food trucks, a free family area, children’s activities, texting, twitter and instagram interaction and more will make for an exciting day with plenty to keep you busy and excited. This year your aspiring jockey age 3-10 can participate in the stick horse race sponsored by Mix 92.9. Phillip’s Toy Mart is providing the horses you provide the fun.
