Music in the Cafe: Bassoonery

The members of Bassoonery have been orchestra members, teachers, and band directors. Founded by former Nashville Symphony Orchestra member Patricia Gunter, this ensemble, with repertoire spanning Bach to Gershwin, delights Frist Art Museum visitors whenever they perform here. Patricia Gunter currently freelances in Kentucky, Indiana, and Alabama. She teaches bassoon at Tennessee State University. She is a member of the Nashville Double Reed Ensemble  Kate Affainie is a freelance professional bassoonist and music specialist. She has a bachelor's degree from Ball State University and a master's degree from Cincinnati Conservatory. She has been a music specialist at Granbery Elementary for 20 years.  Wilson Sharpe is a freelance bassoonist and retired band director from Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Wilson has a B.S. degree from the University of Tennessee and studied with Chris Weait at Ohio State University. He has been a member of the Murfreesboro Symphony Orchestra for 12 years, was a member of the Chattanooga Symphony (6 years), and is a member of the 129th Army National Guard Band in Nashville. Harold Skelton performs with various professional and volunteer ensembles around Nashville, including the Nashville Double Reed Ensemble, the Trevecca Symphony Orchestra, the Murfreesboro Symphony Orchestra, and the Nashville Wind Ensemble. By day he is a lead product development engineer for Whirlpool Corporation in Lavergne. Andrew Witherington has performed with the Springfield Symphony, Lima Symphony, Cincinnati Chamber, Cincinnati Ballet, Dayton Philharmonic, Cleveland Opera, Kentucky Symphony, Louisville Orchestra, Owensboro Symphony, Richmond Symphony, Evansville Philharmonic, Witchita Symphony, New World Symphony, West Virginia Symphony, River City Symphony, and Seneca Chamber. Currently, he is a freelance bassoonist residing in Nashville. He too is a member of the Nashville Double Reed Ensemble.
