Music at the Frist: Monroe Mandolin Camp Jam
Frist Center Cafe
Thu, Sep 14 6:00 pm
The nonprofit Monroe Mandolin Camp, begun in 2013, is the vision, passion and creation of Grammy-winning mandolinist Mike Compton and his partner, multi-instrumentalist Heidi Herzog. With classes and individual lessons taught by a host of the world’s finest mandolin performers and teachers, the camp celebrates the legacy of the legendary bluegrass mandolinist and American music icon Bill Monroe and the traditional roots and blues-influenced music he created. Tonight, join some of the participants in the 2017 camp for a spirited bluegrass and American roots music jam in the Frist Center Cafe. (On Wednesday, September 13, there will be a 6:00 p.m. jam, open to the public in the Scarritt-Bennett Center.) In past years the camp has drawn students from across the United States as well as from England, Canada, the Dominican Republic, Ireland, Sweden, Australia, France, and Italy to the beautiful campus of the Scarritt-Bennett Center in downtown Nashville.
