A year after playing three Power 5 teams, Middle Tennessee will be doing it once again in 2019. MTSU announced its 2019 schedule on Thursday, and the Blue Raiders will open the season at Michigan on Aug. 31. MTSU will host Duke on Sept. 14 before going on the road to face Iowa on Sept. 28, capping off its non-conference schedule. For its road games against the Wolverines ($1.6 million) and the Hawkeyes ($1.55 million), MTSU will make $3.15 million.  A change to the schedule is MTSU will have six regular-season home games after having five in 2018 before hosting the Conference USA championship game against UAB. The Blue Raiders also have two open dates, Sept. 21 and Nov. 9. MTSU plays former Ohio Valley Conference opponent Tennessee State in its home opener on Sept. 7. It will be the first time the two teams will play each other since 1998.  MTSU begins its conference schedule at home against Marshall on Oct. 5. Two new opponents on the schedule this season are North Texas and Rice.  The Blue Raiders finish the season on Nov. 30 with a road trip to face rival Western Kentucky.
