CNC 203: Inlays & Edges with Debra Crane
Woodcraft of Nashville
Sun, Sep 15 9:00 am
This class centers around two concepts: creating inlays and custom decorative edges. Students will learn how to create conventional inlays using contrasting woods in "flat" items such as cutting boards and in "recessed" fields such as platters. Students will also learn how to create highly detailed inlays using the V-Inlay technique. The instructor will also share tips and tricks to make successful compound inlays employing both strategies. During the second half of class, students will learn how to use the molding toolpath to create decorative edges for such items as medallions, picture frames, and platters. These two skills (inlays & edges) can be combined to create one-of-a-kind artistic projects that will be cherished for years to come. Projects will include an inlay cutting board, a recess inlay sign, a custom V-Inlay medallion, and (if time permits) an onlay prism sign. Recommended Reading: CNC Router Essentials.
